Behind the Shield MJ is an independent citizen project. It has no affiliation with the City of Mount Juliet, the Mt. Juliet Police Department, or Flock Safety.

Information you choose to submit

The public source-submission form may collect information you voluntarily provide, including a source or explanation, a source URL, and optional name and email address. Submissions are stored privately for review and are never published automatically.

Private reply codes

Every new source submission receives a random private reply code that is shown to the submitter once. The readable code is not stored with the submission. The site stores only a one-way cryptographic hash used to recognize the code later. If the code is lost, Behind the Shield MJ cannot recover it.

A submitter can return to the Private Conversation page and enter the code to read responses and send additional messages back to the project. Each message is stored with the private submission so the conversation can continue without requiring an email address. The code is verified against its stored one-way hash.

How contact information is used

If you provide an email address, it is used only to follow up about the information you submitted. Behind the Shield MJ does not sell personal information or use submitted contact information for advertising.

Security and abuse prevention

The site uses normal server and security mechanisms to operate safely. For the source-submission form, the visitor’s IP address is not stored with the submitted record. A one-way hash derived from the connection address may be used in private security logs and short-term rate-limiting files to reduce spam or abuse.

Cookies and local tracking

Behind the Shield MJ does not use advertising or behavioral-tracking cookies. Necessary session data may be used for security features such as form protection and the private editor.

Route Exposure Estimator

The Route Exposure Estimator performs its exposure calculations in your browser and Behind the Shield MJ does not intentionally store the start point, destination, or route you enter. Quick mode sends the place or address text you enter directly from your browser to OpenStreetMap’s Nominatim geocoding service and sends the resulting coordinates to an Open Source Routing Machine (OSRM) routing service so a road route can be calculated. Search is biased toward Middle Tennessee but is not restricted to Mount Juliet.

Choose-on-map mode does not use the address geocoder. When “Snap clicks to roads” is enabled, the map coordinates you click are sent directly from your browser to OSRM so the fastest driving route through those points can be calculated. If road snapping is turned off, the clicked route points stay in your browser and are connected with straight lines. In either setting, the map requests map tiles from OpenStreetMap, loads the Leaflet map library from the unpkg CDN, and the estimator may request public road geometry used to place the published ALPR locations. Those providers can receive ordinary technical request information such as an IP address and browser headers.

Public ALPR place names that cannot be positioned from named-road geometry may be looked up through a tightly limited server-side geocoding helper. That helper accepts only the fixed public camera-location identifiers included with this project; it does not accept or geocode visitor-provided addresses.

The site links to public records, government pages, news coverage, and other third-party sources. Those websites have their own privacy practices.

Anonymity and technical records

Behind the Shield MJ does not promise anonymity. The project minimizes identifying information in its own submission records, but hosting, network, email, or other service providers may maintain technical records outside the project’s control. Information may also be subject to valid legal process.

Retention and corrections

Submitted information may be retained as part of the project’s private research record while it is reviewed or remains useful for verification. If you submitted contact information and want it corrected or removed, use the project’s public source-submission form and identify the prior submission.
